How Germany's largest curated shopping service used Easysize to help their stylists pick the right size

Overview

The Curated Shopping Group is a globally leading player in the rapidly growing market of stylist-assisted online shopping. The Curated Shopping Group caters to customers across 8 countries in Europe: Modomoto (Germany, Australia, Switzerland), The Cloakroom (Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden and Belgium), Box31 (France), Box40 (Germany). With more than 250 employees in Berlin they offer a wide assortment of high-quality international and local fashion brands. The Curated Shopping Group uses a mix of machine learning and real-life stylists to learn about its customers' fashion tastes, and recommend stylish clothing accordingly. Customer receives a box with individually picked clothing and accessories items. Once the shipment is received, the customer can try items on and either keep the items or return them.

Challenge

The Curated Shopping Group’s stylist create individually picked selections of fashion for each customer. Sizes often vary between brands, customers fit preference may differ between categories – that leaves stylists with a challenge to find the right size. As a result, stylists end up making some mistakes and the keep rate of orders suffer, as customers return items that didn’t fit them.

Goal

The Curated Shopping Group had a goal to increase the keep rate (a percentage of items, that customers liked and kept), decrease the number of size-related returns and improve stylists’ productivity by helping them find the right size.

Initiatives

Easysize was integrated into The Curated Shopping Group’s internal styling tool in June 2018. Easysize analysed the previous history of kept and rejected orders in order to better understand customers’ individual style and fit preferences. Based on this analysis Easysize was able to find the right size and fit across categories, brands and items. Easysize also accounted for “country sizes” – different sizing format and systems (for example, UK sizes often come in formats 8-10-12 etc, when European sizes – usually in formats 38-40-42), which was vital given, that customers of The Curate Shopping Group present in 8 countries.

Due to the nature of the service, it was crucial to provide the right recommendation for every user on a per-SKU basis. Easysize was able to provide real-time suggestions to stylists without disturbing their regular process and helped stylists correct an, otherwise, incorrect size selection.

That allowed Easysize to help stylists with most users and have a notable positive impact on overall key metrics.

Results

Easysize size suggestions were used in 19% of all orders. By using Easysize The Curated Shopping Group was able to lower its size-related rejection rate by 29% and increase overall keeping rate by 9%.
